pixel vase
Normal is boring. A traditional vase, half of it rebuilt in pixels.
The starting point is a classic Portuguese vase, the kind of shape everyone recognises. We scanned its silhouette and took it into Blender, where a Geometry Nodes setup replaces one half of the form with a grid of cubes. The pixel side follows the original curve, but in steps: the closer you look, the more the smooth profile turns into blocks.
The two halves meet along a clean vertical seam, so the piece reads as one object with two resolutions. Turn it around and it goes from a vase you have seen a hundred times to something that looks like it was rendered rather than made.
From the 3D model we printed a master, made a plaster mould from it, and slip cast the vase in porcelain. The casting keeps every step of the pixel side sharp. A glaze finishes the surface and ties the two halves together.
